A Bible Study on Jesus-Birth, life, death, and resurrection

    As noted under the heading of "Forecast of Jesus," because of the prophecies from the Old Testament, some people in Israel were looking for and expecting the coming of the Messiah.
   It is written, THERE WAS A MAN IN JERUSALEM, WHOSE NAME WAS SIMEON; AND THE SAME MAN WAS JUST AND DEVOUT, WAITING FOR THE CONSOLATION OF ISRAEL-Lk 2:25.
   AND THERE WAS ONE ANNA, A PROPHETESS...AND SHE...SPAKE OF HIM TO ALL THEM THAT LOOKED FOR REDEMPTION IN JERUSALEM-Lk 2:36,38.
   When the wise men came to Jerusalem inquiring, WHERE IS HE THAT IS BORN KING OF THE JEWS?-Mt 2:2, Herod gathered the chief priests and scribes together. He demanded of them where Christ should be born-ref Mt 2:4. AND THEY SAID UNTO HIM, IN BETHLEHEM-Mt 2:5. Although they were troubled, it did not seem to surprise them that this was the time for the Messiah.
   Daniel's prophecy made it clear—this was the time to expect the Messiah. The Messiah is Jesus.

    THIS IS HOW THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST CAME ABOUT-Mt 1:18 NIV. THE ANGEL GABRIEL WAS SENT FROM GOD UNTO A CITY OF GALILEE, NAMED NAZARETH, TO A VIRGIN EXPOUSED TO A MAN WHOSE NAME WAS JOSEPH, OF THE HOUSE OF DAVID; AND THE VIRGIN'S NAME WAS MARY. AND THE ANGEL...SAID...THE HOLY GHOST SHALL COME UPON THEE, AND THE POWER OF THE HIGHEST SHALL OVERSHADOW THEE: THEREFORE ALSO THAT HOLY THING WHICH SHALL BE BORN OF THEE SHALL BE CALLED THE SON OF GOD-Lk 1:26,27,35.
   NOW…BEFORE THEY CAME TOGETHER, SHE (Mary) WAS FOUND WITH CHILD OF THE HOLY GHOST. BUT WHILE HE (Joseph) THOUGHT ON THESE THINGS, BEHOLD, THE ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED UNTO HIM IN A DREAM, SAYING, JOSEPH, THOU SON OF DAVID, FEAR NOT TO TAKE UNTO THEE MARY THY WIFE: FOR THAT WHICH IS CONCEIVED IN HER IS OF THE HOLY GHOST. AND SHE SHALL BRING FORTH A SON, AND THOU SHALT CALL HIS NAME JESUS: FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS. NOW ALL THIS WAS DONE, THAT IT MIGHT BE FULFILLED WHICH WAS SPOKEN OF THE LORD BY THE PROPHET, SAYING-Mt 1:18,20-22; BEHOLD, A VIRGIN SHALL CONCEIVE, AND BEAR A SON, AND SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL...WHICH BEING INTERPRETED IS, GOD WITH US-Isa 7:14; Mt 1:23.
   AND JOSEPH...WENT UP FROM GALILEE, OUT OF THE CITY OF NAZARETH, INTO JUDAEA, UNTO THE CITY OF DAVID, WHICH IS CALLED BETHLEHEM...TO BE TAXED WITH MARY HIS EXPOUSED WIFE, BEING GREAT WITH CHILD. AND SO IT WAS, THAT, WHILE THEY WERE THERE, THE DAYS WERE ACCOMPLISHED THAT SHE SHOULD BE DELIVERED. AND SHE BROUGHT FORTH HER FIRSTBORN SON, AND WRAPPED HIM IN SWADDLING CLOTHES, AND LAID HIM IN A MANGER; BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR THEM IN THE INN-Lk 2:4-7. AND WHEN EIGHT DAYS WERE ACCOMPLISHED FOR THE CIRCUMCISING OF THE CHILD, HIS NAME WAS CALLED JESUS, WHICH WAS SO NAMED OF THE ANGEL BEFORE HE WAS CONCEIVED IN THE WOMB-Lk 2:21.
   FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE-Jn 3:16.

    Rev 12:1-AND THERE APPEARED A GREAT WONDER (or wondrous sign) IN HEAVEN. We may say that which comes forth is ordained in heaven by God. The verse continues, A WOMAN (which is Israel) CLOTHED WITH THE SUN. This would appear to indicate brilliance. Israel shines forth. Israel is God’s inheritance-ref Isa 19:20. Israel brought forth the Messiah, Jesus. "Clothed with the sun" can also represent being "clothed with Jesus."
   The verse continues, AND THE MOON UNDER HER FEET. This brings forth the idea of dominance. If something is under your feet, you dominate it. AND UPON HER HEAD A CROWN: the crown represents authority. In this case, the authority is reflected through or OF TWELVE STARS (which represent the twelve tribes of Israel). In this representation, the word "star" is used denoting a tribe. A magnificent picture is given of this woman. Four primary items are covered: the first is the woman’s clothing; the second is her position; the third is her authority; the fourth (that follows in verse two) is her condition. She is clothed beautifully with the sun. The moon is under her feet. This incredible illustration of Israel, shining forth in all her glory, should reach its complete fulfillment during the Millennium.
   Note, in Gen 37:9-AND HE (Joseph) DREAMED YET ANOTHER DREAM, AND TOLD IT HIS BRETHREN, AND SAID, BEHOLD, I HAVE DREAMED A DREAM MORE; AND, BEHOLD, THE SUN AND THE MOON AND THE ELEVEN STARS MADE OBEISANCE TO ME. This also represents Israel. In this verse in Genesis, consider:

    Rev 12:2-AND SHE (the woman-Israel) (was pregnant) BEING WITH CHILD (and) CRIED (or screamed), TRAVAILING IN BIRTH, AND PAINED (or in agony of labor) TO BE DELIVERED (or to give birth to the Messiah).
   Isaiah confirms this, as it is written, BEFORE SHE (Israel) TRAVAILED, SHE BROUGHT FORTH; BEFORE HER PAIN CAME, SHE WAS DELIVERED OF A MAN CHILD-Isa 66:7,8. Also note ref Ro 9:4,5. The Roman Catholics have mistakenly confused the woman with Mary. No where in the Bible is Mary ever pictured as being clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet or having a crown of twelve stars upon her head. No where is she ever depicted as fulfilling Rev 12:6.
   The next verse brings forth a change in subject.
   Rev 12:3-AND THERE APPEARED ANOTHER WONDER (or sign) IN HEAVEN; AND BEHOLD (there was) A GREAT (or enormous) RED DRAGON (which is Satan). The word "great" denotes something of importance and with power. The word "red" may denote that he is a murderer, a shedder of blood. It may represent the incredible amount of blood of the saints that will be shed during the Tribulation. This term "red dragon" is used only in the Revelation, denoting Satan. The word "dragon" denotes "a fabulous winged monster, a fierce person," reference the New Webster’s Dictionary. The word "serpent," often applied to Satan, indicates great deceptive powers. It can also denote wisdom or being wise-ref Mt 10:16.
   Rev 12:4-AND THE DRAGON (who is Satan) STOOD BEFORE THE WOMAN (Israel) WHICH WAS READY TO BE DELIVERED (or give birth), FOR TO DEVOUR (or so that he might devour) HER CHILD AS SOON AS (or the moment) IT WAS BORN.
   Satan wanted to destroy Jesus as soon as He was born. He worked through Herod. It is written, THEN HEROD, WHEN HE SAW THAT HE WAS MOCKED OF THE WISE MEN, WAS EXCEEDING WROTH, AND SENT FORTH, AND SLEW ALL THE CHILDREN THAT WERE IN BETHLEHEM, AND IN ALL THE COASTS THEREOF, FROM TWO YEARS OLD AND UNDER, ACCORDING TO THE TIME WHICH HE HAD DILIGENTLY INQUIRED OF THE WISE MEN. THEN WAS FULFILLED THAT WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY JEREMY THE PROPHET, SAYING, IN RAMA WAS THERE A VOICE HEARD, LAMENTATION, AND WEEPING, AND GREAT MOURNING, RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN, AND WOULD NOT BE COMFORTED, BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT-Mt 2:16-18. This dates back to Gen 3:15. As it is written, AND I WILL PUT ENMITY BETWEEN THEE AND THE WOMAN, AND BETWEEN THY SEED AND HER SEED; IT SHALL BRUISE THY HEAD, AND THOU SHALT BRUISE HIS HEEL.
   Rev 12:5-AND SHE BROUGHT FORTH A MAN CHILD (or son) (Whose name was Jesus). (We just previously read in Isa 66:7, SHE WAS DELIVERED OF A MAN CHILD.) The One WHO WAS TO RULE ALL NATIONS. This will take place during the Millennium. Jesus will rule WITH A ROD OF IRON (or iron scepter). Jesus will deal with sin severely.
   Regarding Jesus ruling in Israel, which will have its fulfillment during the Millennium, it is written, BUT THOU, BETH-LEHEM EPHRATAH, THOUGH THOU BE LITTLE AMONG THE THOUSANDS OF JUDAH, YET OUT OF THEE SHALL HE COME FORTH UNTO ME THAT IS TO BE RULER IN ISRAEL; WHOSE GOINGS FORTH HAVE BEEN FROM OF OLD, FROM EVERLASTING-Mic 5:2. FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN, UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN: AND THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER-Isa 9:6.

AND THE CHILD (Jesus) GREW, AND WAXED STRONG IN SPIRIT, FILLED WITH WISDOM: AND THE GRACE OF GOD WAS UPON HIM-Lk 2:40. NOW WHEN ALL THE PEOPLE WERE BAPTIZED, IT CAME TO PASS, THAT JESUS ALSO BEING BAPTIZED, AND PRAYING, THE HEAVEN WAS OPENED, AND THE HOLY GHOST DESCENDED IN A BODILY SHAPE LIKE A DOVE UPON HIM, AND A VOICE CAME FROM HEAVEN, WHICH SAID, THOU ART MY BELOVED SON; IN THEE I AM WELL PLEASED. AND JESUS HIMSELF BEGAN TO BE ABOUT THIRTY YEARS OF AGE-Lk 3:21-23.

AND JESUS BEING FULL OF THE HOLY GHOST RETURNED FROM JORDAN, AND WAS LED BY THE SPIRIT INTO THE WILDERNESS, BEING FORTY DAYS TEMPTED OF THE DEVIL. AND IN THOSE DAYS HE DID EAT NOTHING: AND WHEN THEY WERE ENDED, HE AFTERWARD HUNGERED-Lk 4:1,2. The wording, FORTY DAYS TEMPTED OF THE DEVIL, denotes that during this time, Jesus went through various temptations by Satan. When a person fasts for a long time (no food, only water permitted), many thoughts arise in the their mind. One of the main temptations is to give up: to not finish the fast (of seven days, ten days, twenty-one days, or forty days, or whatever) that God has called the person to do.
We may also note that Jesus withdrew Himself from people during His time of fasting and was led BY THE SPIRIT INTO THE WILDERNESS. Then, afterward, HE…HUNGERED.

    AND THE DEVIL SAID UNTO HIM, IF THOU BE THE SON OF GOD, COMMAND THIS STONE THAT IT BE MADE BREAD-
Lk 4:3.
   Jesus was now at His weakest. He had just fasted for forty days. We may note the first temptation involves food. It comes in the form of a challenge, "if thou be," then prove it by doing this or that. We may say, this sounded reasonable, after all, Jesus was hungry. This temptation certainly would have appealed to His flesh. What really was at stake here was this: would Jesus be led of the Spirit of God? or would He be led of the devil? Would Jesus follow and obey God? or would He follow and obey the devil? Jesus is the Son of God. He had the power to turn the rocks into bread; however, it needs to be noted, that doing so would not have been the will of the Father, but rather, what Satan desired Him to do. This temptation was also devoted to "self." He was being tempted to satisfy His hunger by using His divine power. The miracles that Jesus later did benefited others, not Himself. Satan wanted Jesus to act independently from His Father. Should Jesus have been disobedient in even the smallest matter, He would not have been obedient in all things, even unto death.
   When temptations come on you and you consider it is the devil tempting you, then you may expect to hear in your thoughts, "It is not the devil. It is only your own thoughts giving you some good advice." In other cases, you may hear, "This is God speaking to you to do this, or that." AND NO MARVEL; FOR SATAN HIMSELF IS TRANSFORMED INTO AN ANGEL OF LIGHT-2 Cor 11:14. How can we know the thoughts that come from God and the thoughts that come from Satan? The answer is by God's Word. Study, study, and study. Get to know the voice of God from the Bible so well, that you can identify the deceptions of the devil when they come. God's Word is the key. Many say, in this generation of deception we are now in, "God told me to do this, or that," yet it contradicts God's written Word. Beware.
   Remember, Eve was also tempted with food.
   Jesus overcame this temptation. He did not yield to Satan's subtle deception. Jesus responded with God's Word. The way to fight Satan, when he speaks to us and tempts us in our thoughts, through our flesh, or in our emotions, is by using God's Word. Jesus said, IT IS WRITTEN, THAT MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD OF GOD-Lk 4:4. He quoted a passage from Deut 8:3. Quoting God's Word to Satan caused him to cease this temptation and go on to another.
   Consider what Jesus had said. His Word tells every born-again Christian how to live. We are to live BY EVERY WORD OF GOD. We are to live by the Bible.
   The first recorded temptation or test of Satan was "IF THOU BE." Among the last temptations or tests that Jesus endured was of the same nature. Satan does not give up. He keeps trying and trying. Note the temptation, or test, as Jesus was hanging on the cross dying. AND THEY THAT PASSED BY REVILED HIM, WAGGING THEIR HEADS, AND SAYING..."IF THOU BE" THE SON OF GOD, COME DOWN FROM THE CROSS. LIKEWISE ALSO THE CHIEF PRIESTS MOCKING HIM, WITH THE SCRIBES AND ELDERS, SAID, HE SAVED OTHERS; HIMSELF HE CANNOT SAVE. IF HE BE THE KING OF ISRAEL, LET HIM NOW COME DOWN FROM THE CROSS AND WE WILL BELIEVE HIM-Mt 27:39-42.
   The born-again Christian should be very familiar with these tactics. Satan will speak to us in our thoughts to do this or that "because." Satan will tell us to do something wrong and then give us a good reason why we should do it. He will tell us, "It is all right." He may tell us, "No one will know." He may tell you that you can accomplish what your heart desires by doing it his way, rather than God's way.
   Consider, Jesus WAS IN ALL POINTS TEMPTED (or tested) LIKE AS WE ARE, YET WITHOUT SIN-Heb 4:15.

    The second temptation we read from Matthew's Gospel. THEN THE DEVIL TAKETH HIM UP INTO THE HOLY CITY, AND SETTETH HIM ON A PINNACLE OF THE TEMPLE, AND SAITH UNTO HIM, IF THOU BE THE SON OF GOD, CAST THYSELF DOWN: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, HE SHALL GIVE HIS ANGELS CHARGE CONCERNING THEE: AND IN THEIR HANDS THEY SHALL BEAR THEE UP, LEST AT ANY TIME THOU DASH THY FOOT AGAINST A STONE-Mt 4:5,6.
   Satan's second temptation goes a step further. This time Satan uses God's Word to tempt Jesus. Satan quoted Scripture. Understand that Satan knows Scripture well, but he distorts and twists it. He misuses Scripture by omitting parts of it and by using it out of context. Note the words, IF THOU BE THE SON OF GOD, CAST THYSELF DOWN: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, or we might say, "because." Do this or that, "because."
   Again, Jesus overcame this temptation or test and gives us the example of how to deal with Satan. Jesus used the Word. JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, IT IS WRITTEN AGAIN, THOU SHALT NOT TEMPT THE LORD THY GOD-Mt 4:7.
   Satan did not quote all the Scripture. He left out "IN ALL THY WAYS"-ref Ps 91:11,12. A person is protected when he obeys God.

    The third temptation or test reveals Satan's ultimate goal. He wants worship; he wants to be God. He is willing to give you your heart's desire in order to get your worship. Some may say, "I do not worship Satan." They do not understand that disobedience to God is a form of worshiping Satan. It is written, FOR REBELLION IS AS THE SIN OF WITCHCRAFT-I Sam 15:23.
   AGAIN, THE DEVIL TAKETH HIM UP INTO AN EXCEEDING HIGH MOUNTAIN, AND SHOWETH HIM ALL THE KINGDOMS OF THE WORLD, AND THE GLORY OF THEM; AND SAITH UNTO HIM, ALL THESE THINGS WILL I GIVE THEE, IF THOU WILT FALL DOWN AND WORSHIP ME.
   Satan is now, as we might say, "pulling out all stops." He offers Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them. The price is to worship Satan. The price is to disobey God. Jesus will indeed reign and rule this world; however, Satan seems to be saying, "Why wait? You can have all the kingdoms of the world right now. Just worship me."
   Again, Jesus gives the example of what to do when tempted: He used the Word of God. THEN SAITH JESUS UNTO HIM, GET THEE HENCE, SATAN: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, THOU SHALT WORSHIP THE LORD THY GOD, AND HIM ONLY SHALT THOU SERVE-Mt 4:8-10.
   Jesus commanded Satan, GET THEE HENCE...FOR IT IS WRITTEN. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Christ come in the flesh.
   These words are for all Christians. We are to WORSHIP THE LORD THY GOD, AND HIM ONLY SHALT THOU SERVE.
   Again, Jesus overcomes Satan's deceptions.
   Note the following verses showing that Satan wants worship and even wants to overthrow God. It is written, O LUCIFER...THOU HAST SAID IN THINE HEART, I WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN, I WILL EXALT MY THRONE ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD: I WILL SIT ALSO UPON THE MOUNT OF THE CONGREGATION, IN THE SIDES OF THE NORTH: I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE HEIGHTS OF THE CLOUDS; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH-Isa 14:12-14. Keep in mind, once we submit to Jesus we no longer should say, "I will," but rather, "Let God’s will be done."
   The day is coming and is close at hand, when the Antichrist will say, yes, to this offer of being given all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them. He will rule the world for the last three and a half years of the Tribulation, but his end is to be cast alive into the lake of fire for eternity.
   We may note that through these temptations, Satan has appealed to the physical appetite, to personal gain, and to the desire for power and glory. So many people, in the time of temptation, fall away. As one studies the various temptations and subtle tactics that Satan used against Eve and against Jesus, many similarities can be noted.

God is pulling us in one direction: toward repentance, childlike faith, and obedience to Him. Satan is pulling us in another direction: toward disobedience to God.

When being tempted, it is not uncommon for someone to say, "I am confused. I don't know what to do." GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF CONFUSION-1 Cor 14:33. Satan is.

Often we may feel as though we are between two ropes. One is tied to our right hand and the other to our left hand. Both ropes are pulling on us at the same time. It may feel like we are being pulled or torn apart. God is not willing that any should perish. One way that Satan attacks God is through us. We are the battlefield. The fiery darts, which sometimes seem like they are going to consume or overwhelm us, are thoughts, emotions, and our flesh. These are "self." Sometimes our stomach becomes so tied up in knots, we could almost scream. There are many people that sell their soul to Satan for some worldly lust or pleasure. It may be for a piece of bread, clothing, fame, power, or other material things that will all pass away. Our thoughts need to be focused upon doing the will of God, not our own will. It is written, SUBMIT YOURSELVES THEREFORE TO GOD. RESIST THE DEVIL, AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU-Ja 4:7. Our thoughts need to be kept upon Jesus, Who is our trust. THOU WILT KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE, WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON THEE: BECAUSE HE TRUSTETH IN THEE-Isa 26:3.

    AND JESUS RETURNED IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT INTO GALILEE...AND HE TAUGHT IN THEIR SYNAGOGUES...AND HE CAME TO NAZARETH, WHERE HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP: AND, AS HIS CUSTOM WAS, HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE SABBATH DAY, AND STOOD UP FOR TO READ. AND THERE WAS DELIVERED UNTO HIM THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET ESAIAS. AND WHEN HE HAD OPENED THE BOOK, HE FOUND THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS WRITTEN-Lk 4:14-17.
   THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD GOD IS UPON ME; BECAUSE THE LORD HATH ANOINTED ME TO PREACH GOOD TIDINGS UNTO THE MEEK; HE HATH SENT ME TO BIND UP THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES, AND THE OPENING OF THE PRISON TO THEM THAT ARE BOUND; TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD-Isa 61:1,2;
   AND RECOVERING OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND-Lk 4:18. AND HE BEGAN TO SAY UNTO THEM, THIS DAY IS THIS SCRIPTURE FULFILLED IN YOUR EARS-Lk 4:21.
   AND (Jesus) CAME DOWN TO CAPERNAUM...AND THEY WERE ASTONISHED AT HIS DOCTRINE...NOW WHEN THE SUN WAS SETTING, ALL THEY THAT HAD ANY SICK WITH DIVERS DISEASES BROUGHT THEM UNTO HIM; AND HE LAID HIS HANDS ON EVERY ONE OF THEM, AND HEALED THEM-Lk 4:31,32,40.
   AND DEVILS ALSO CAME OUT OF MANY, CRYING OUT, AND SAYING, THOU ART CHRIST THE SON OF GOD. AND HE REBUKING THEM SUFFERED THEM NOT TO SPEAK: FOR THEY KNEW THAT HE WAS CHRIST…AND THE MULTITUDES MARVELED, SAYING, IT WAS NEVER SO SEEN IN ISRAEL-Lk 4:41; Mt 9:33.
   THEN HE (Jesus) CALLED HIS TWELVE DISCIPLES TOGETHER, AND GAVE THEM POWER AND AUTHORITY OVER ALL DEVILS, AND TO CURE DISEASES-Lk 9:1.
   And Jesus said, REPENT YE, AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL-Mk 1:15. I TELL YOU, NAY: BUT, EXCEPT YE REPENT, YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH-Lk 13:3. VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, EXCEPT YE BE CONVERTED, AND BECOME AS LITTLE CHILDREN, YE SHALL NOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN-Mt 18:3. VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO THEE, EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN AGAIN, HE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD. HE THAT BELIEVETH ON THE SON HATH EVERLASTING LIFE: AND HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT THE SON (the Word) SHALL NOT SEE LIFE; BUT THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDETH ON HIM-Jn 3:3,36.
   AND GREAT MULTITUDES CAME TOGETHER TO HEAR, AND TO BE HEALED BY HIM...(Jesus) WENT INTO A CITY CALLED NAIN...NOW WHEN HE CAME NIGH TO THE GATE OF THE CITY, BEHOLD, THERE WAS A DEAD MAN (being) CARRIED OUT, THE ONLY SON OF HIS MOTHER, AND SHE WAS A WIDOW...AND HE (Jesus) CAME AND TOUCHED THE BIER (or coffin)...AND HE SAID, YOUNG MAN, I SAY UNTO THEE, ARISE (or get up).     HE HAD NO BEAUTY OR MAJESTY TO ATTRACT US TO HIM, NOTHING IN HIS APPEARANCE THAT WE SHOULD DESIRE HIM-Isa 53:2 NIV.

   AND THE WHOLE MULTITUDE OF THEM AROSE, AND LED HIM UNTO PILATE-Lk 23:1. AND WHEN HE WAS ACCUSED OF THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND ELDERS, HE ANSWERED NOTHING.    AND AS SOON AS HE KNEW THAT HE BELONGED UNTO HEROD'S JURISDICTION, HE SENT HIM TO HEROD, WHO HIMSELF ALSO WAS AT JERUSALEM AT THAT TIME. THEN HE QUESTIONED WITH HIM IN MANY WORDS; BUT HE ANSWERED HIM NOTHING. AND THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND SCRIBES STOOD AND VEHEMENTLY ACCUSED HIM-Lk 23:7,9,10.    THE SOLDIERS TWISTED TOGETHER A CROWN OF THORNS AND PUT IT ON HIS HEAD...AND...STRUCK HIM IN THE FACE-Jn 19:2,3 NIV. AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY STRUCK HIM ON THE HEAD WITH A STAFF AND SPIT ON HIM-Mk 15:19 NIV.

    As it is written, AND ALMOST ALL THINGS ARE BY THE LAW PURGED WITH BLOOD; AND WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD IS NO REMISSION-Heb 9:22.
   Regarding Passover, it is written, SPEAK YE UNTO ALL THE CONGREGATION OF ISRAEL, SAYING, IN THE TENTH DAY OF THIS MONTH THEY SHALL TAKE TO THEM EVERY MAN A LAMB…YOUR LAMB SHALL BE WITHOUT BLEMISH…AND YE SHALL KEEP IT UP UNTIL THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF THE SAME MONTH: AND THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY OF THE CONGREGATION OF ISRAEL SHALL KILL IT IN THE EVENING. AND THEY SHALL TAKE OF THE BLOOD, AND STRIKE IT ON THE TWO SIDE POSTS AND ON THE UPPER DOOR POST OF THE HOUSES, WHEREIN THEY SHALL EAT IT.    Here is a picture of the Messiah. Jesus came into Jerusalem on the tenth day of this same month. He was examined until the fourteenth day of the same month. Jesus, the Lamb of God, was without blemish. Jesus was our Passover Lamb. On Passover, Jesus was crucified and became the final sacrifice. His body was not allowed to be left on the cross overnight. The blood of the Messiah saves. The blood shall be to you for a token. When you are covered by the blood of Jesus, you are saved. You will not be destroyed and perish. When you repent and receive Christ by faith, you are covered by the blood.
   It is written, PURGE OUT THEREFORE THE OLD LEAVEN, THAT YE MAY BE A NEW LUMP, AS YE ARE UNLEAVENED. FOR EVEN CHRIST OUR PASSOVER IS SACRIFICED FOR US-1 Cor 5:7.
   Jesus was about to be hanged on a cross, yet He had done no sin. It is written, AND IF A MAN HAVE COMMITTED A SIN WORTHY OF DEATH, AND HE BE TO BE PUT TO DEATH, AND THOU HANG HIM ON A TREE. HIS BODY SHALL NOT REMAIN ALL NIGHT UPON THE TREE, BUT THOU SHALT IN ANY WISE BURY HIM THAT DAY; (FOR HE THAT IS HANGED IS ACCURSED OF GOD;) THAT THY LAND BE NOT DEFILED, WHICH THE LORD THY GOD GIVETH THEE FOR AN INHERITANCE-Deut 21:22,23.

    HE WAS TAKEN FROM PRISON AND FROM JUDGMENT: AND WHO SHALL DECLARE HIS GENERATION? FOR HE WAS CUT OFF OUT OF THE LAND OF THE LIVING: FOR THE TRANSGRESSION OF MY PEOPLE WAS HE STRICKEN-Isa 53:8. Daniel had prophesied of the time, as it is written, AFTER THREESCORE AND TWO WEEKS SHALL MESSIAH BE CUT OFF-Dan 9:26. AND WHEN THEY WERE COME TO THE PLACE, WHICH IS CALLED CALVARY, THERE THEY CRUCIFIED HIM-Lk 23:33; …AND PARTED HIS GARMENTS, CASTING LOTS: THAT IT MIGHT BE FULFILLED WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHET-Mt 27:35; THEY DIVIDE MY GARMENTS AMONG THEM AND CAST LOTS FOR MY CLOTHING-Ps 22:18 NIV.
   HE IS DESPISED AND REJECTED OF MEN; A MAN OF SORROWS, AND ACQUAINTED WITH GRIEF: AND WE HID AS IT WERE OUR FACES FROM HIM; HE WAS DESPISED, AND WE ESTEEMED HIM NOT. SURELY HE HATH BORNE OUR GRIEFS, AND CARRIED OUR SORROWS: YET WE DID ESTEEM HIM STRICKEN, SMITTEN OF GOD, AND AFFLICTED. BUT HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS, HE WAS BRUISED FOR OUR INIQUITIES-Isa 53:3-5. THE PUNISHMENT THAT BROUGHT US PEACE WAS UPON HIM-Isa 53:5 NIV. AND WITH HIS STRIPES (or wounds) WE ARE HEALED-Isa 53:5.
   THUS SAITH THE LORD, THE REDEEMER OF ISRAEL, AND HIS HOLY ONE, TO HIM WHOM MAN DESPISETH, TO HIM WHOM THE NATION ABHORRETH-Isa 49:7.
   I GAVE MY BACK TO THE SMITERS (to THOSE WHO BEAT ME-NIV), (MY CHEEKS TO THOSE WHO PULLED OUT MY BEARD-NIV): I HID NOT MY FACE FROM SHAME AND SPITTING-Isa 50:6. BUT I AM A WORM, AND NO MAN; A REPROACH OF MEN, AND DESPISED OF THE PEOPLE-Ps 22:6. (ALL WHO SEE ME MOCK ME; THEY HURL INSULTS, SHAKING THEIR HEADS-NIV) SAYING, HE TRUSTED ON THE LORD THAT HE WOULD DELIVER HIM: LET HIM DELIVER HIM, SEEING HE DELIGHTED IN HIM-Ps 22:7,8. YET YOU BROUGHT ME OUT OF THE WOMB. YOU MADE ME TRUST IN YOU, EVEN AT MY MOTHER'S BREAST-Ps 22:9 NIV. I WAS CAST UPON THEE FROM THE WOMB. THOU ART MY GOD FROM MY MOTHER’S BELLY-Ps 22:10.
   BE NOT FAR FROM ME; FOR TROUBLE IS NEAR; FOR THERE IS NONE TO HELP. MANY BULLS HAVE COMPASSED ME. STRONG BULLS OF BASHAN HAVE BESET ME ROUND. THEY GAPED UPON ME WITH THEIR MOUTHS, AS A RAVENING AND A ROARING LION. I AM POURED OUT LIKE WATER, AND ALL MY BONES ARE OUT OF JOINT: MY HEART IS LIKE WAX; IT IS MELTED IN THE MIDST OF MY BOWELS. MY STRENGTH IS DRIED UP LIKE A POTSHERD, AND MY TONGUE CLEAVETH TO MY JAWS; AND THOU HAST BROUGHT ME INTO THE DUST OF DEATH. FOR DOGS HAVE COMPASSED ME: THE ASSEMBLY OF THE WICKED HAVE INCLOSED ME: THEY PIERCED MY HANDS AND MY FEET. I MAY TELL ALL MY BONES: THEY LOOK AND STARE UPON ME-Ps 22:11-17.
   THEY GAVE ME ALSO GALL FOR MY MEAT. AND IN MY THIRST THEY GAVE ME VINEGAR TO DRINK-Ps 69:21. AND WHEN HE HAD TASTED THEREOF, HE WOULD NOT DRINK-Mt 27:34.
   MANY…WERE APPALLED (or astonished) AT HIM—HIS APPEARANCE WAS SO DISFIGURED, BEYOND THAT OF ANY MAN, AND HIS FORM MARRED BEYOND HUMAN LIKENESS-Isa 52:14 NIV.
   Consider Jesus. He did no wrong, yet He was betrayed, arrested, and bound. The council sought to put Him to death. False witnesses rose up against Him. The religious leaders, the rulers, and the people were all against Him. He was mocked, beaten with fists, flogged, slapped, and blindfolded. They placed a crown of thorns on His head and hit Him again and again with a staff, until it was embedded in His head. They spit on Him and pulled out His beard. Consider what a man would look like after His beard is ripped from His face! Then they crucified Him. He was despised. He was insulted. His blood poured out, and His bones were out of joint. His strength dried up, and His tongue cleaved to His jaws. He was surrounded by His enemies. They pierced His hands and feet. His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man, beyond human likeness. Has anyone ever really portrayed a picture of Jesus hanging on the cross as the Bible portrays it? Yet what did Jesus do? Even Pilate declared before all, I FIND NO FAULT IN THIS MAN-Lk 23:4.
   THEN SAID JESUS, FATHER, FORGIVE THEM: FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO-Lk 23:34.
   And Jesus said, MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME? WHY ART THOU SO FAR FROM HELPING ME, AND FROM THE WORDS OF MY ROARING (or groaning)?-Ps 22:1. Jesus said, IT IS FINISHED-Jn 19:30.

    When Jesus was crucified, there were TWO THIEVES CRUCIFIED WITH HIM, ONE ON THE RIGHT HAND, AND ANOTHER ON THE LEFT-Mt 27:38.
   AND THEY THAT PASSED BY REVILED HIM, WAGGING THEIR HEADS, AND SAYING, THOU THAT DESTROYEST THE TEMPLE, AND BUILDEST IT IN THREE DAYS, SAVE THYSELF. IF THOU BE THE SON OF GOD, COME DOWN FROM THE CROSS-Mt 27:39,40. We may note, the first temptation Jesus endured, after having fasted forty days, was "IF THOU BE THE SON OF GOD." This was followed by a request to do something ("If…then do this or that"). Here Satan—moving through his people—uses the same type of temptation. Satan does not give up tempting us. He keeps trying, and trying, and trying.
   Jesus had already addressed this type of temptation in Mt 4:7 with, THOU SHALT NOT TEMPT THE LORD THY GOD.
   LIKEWISE ALSO THE CHIEF PRIESTS MOCKING HIM, WITH THE SCRIBES AND ELDERS, SAID, HE SAVED OTHERS; HIMSELF HE CANNOT SAVE. IF HE BE THE KING OF ISRAEL, LET HIM NOW COME DOWN FROM THE CROSS, AND WE WILL BELIEVE HIM. HE TRUSTED IN GOD; LET HIM DELIVER HIM NOW, IF HE WILL HAVE HIM: FOR HE SAID, I AM THE SON OF GOD. THE THIEVES ALSO, WHICH WERE CRUCIFIED WITH HIM, CAST THE SAME IN HIS TEETH-Mt 27:41-44.
   What a temptation! One purpose Jesus came was so that people would believe in Him. Satan skillfully uses this in the temptation, as the chief priests, scribes, and elders had said they would believe in Him, "if" He would come down from the cross. Yet no temptation could move Jesus to disobey the will of His Father in heaven.
   Little did the religious leaders realize, they were fulfilling Scripture with their mockings and their words. As it is written, in Ps 22:7,8-ALL THEY THAT SEE ME LAUGH ME TO SCORN: THEY SHOOT OUT THE LIP, THEY SHAKE THE HEAD, SAYING, HE TRUSTED ON THE LORD THAT HE WOULD DELIVER HIM: LET HIM DELIVER HIM, SEEING HE DELIGHTED IN HIM.
   AND THE SOLDIERS ALSO MOCKED HIM, COMING TO HIM, AND OFFERING HIM VINEGAR, AND SAYING, IF THOU BE THE KING OF THE JEWS, SAVE THYSELF-Lk 23:36,37.
   Note the multitude of people that tempted Him in the same way: they that passed by, the chief priests, the scribes, the elders, the thieves, and the soldiers.
   Those that were mocking must have thought this Jesus was a false Messiah and that His ability to destroy the temple was gone. If He were the Christ, the Son of God, He should come down off the cross. Since He did not do this, undoubtedly, it proved to the mockers that His claims must be false. "He saved others," they reasoned, but He could not save Himself. Their words, "HE TRUSTED IN GOD; LET HIM DELIVER HIM NOW," further proved that they thought His claim of being the Son of God was false as God did not rescue Him.
   Jesus conquered Satan’s temptations by denying Himself. He overcame Satan by only doing the will of His Father in heaven. As a result of sacrificing Himself and not yielding to Satan’s temptations, a way was now made for the world to be saved. As it is written, FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE-Jn 3:16.
   Consider carefully, the many ways Jesus was tempted, yet was without sin. "Follow Jesus," Who is our example.

    Both thieves had railed on Jesus after they were hung on the cross prior to the sixth hour-ref Mt 27:44,45; however, afterward, one repented. As it is written, AND ONE OF THE MALEFACTORS (or criminals) WHICH WERE HANGED RAILED ON HIM, SAYING, IF THOU BE CHRIST, SAVE THYSELF AND US. BUT THE OTHER ANSWERING REBUKED HIM, SAYING, DOST NOT THOU FEAR GOD, SEEING THOU ART IN THE SAME CONDEMNATION? AND WE INDEED JUSTLY; FOR WE RECEIVE THE DUE REWARD OF OUR DEEDS: BUT THIS MAN HATH DONE NOTHING AMISS. AND HE SAID UNTO JESUS, LORD, REMEMBER ME WHEN THOU COMEST INTO THY KINGDOM. AND JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, VERILY I SAY UNTO THEE, TODAY SHALT THOU BE WITH ME IN PARADISE-Lk 23:39-43.
   Note, the repentant criminal feared God. He admitted he was wrong and that he was receiving his due reward for what he had done. He admitted Jesus had done no wrong. He believed Jesus was the Messiah and called Him, Lord, openly before all the people and was not ashamed. He asked Jesus to remember him, because he was convinced that Jesus was the Christ and had a kingdom. He had faith.
   The response of Jesus was, TODAY SHALT THOU BE WITH ME IN PARADISE.
   Although the Scriptures do not mention the following, we can assume that upon such a confession, the people who were mocking Jesus probably began to mock the repentant criminal and persecute him also.

    AND WHEN JESUS HAD CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE, HE SAID, FATHER, INTO THY HANDS I COMMEND MY SPIRIT: AND HAVING SAID THUS, HE GAVE UP THE GHOST-Lk 23:46.
   AND, BEHOLD, THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT IN TWAIN (or torn in two) FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM; AND THE EARTH DID QUAKE, AND THE ROCKS RENT (or split)-Mt 27:51.
   THEN CAME THE SOLDIERS, AND BRAKE THE LEGS OF THE FIRST, AND OF THE OTHER WHICH WAS CRUCIFIED WITH HIM. BUT WHEN THEY CAME TO JESUS, AND SAW THAT HE WAS DEAD ALREADY, THEY BREAK NOT HIS LEGS-Jn 19:32,33. THAT THE SCRIPTURE SHOULD BE FULFILLED-Jn 19:36. HE KEEPETH ALL HIS BONES: NOT ONE OF THEM IS BROKEN-Ps 34:20. Also, regarding the Passover lamb, THEY SHALL LEAVE NONE OF IT UNTO THE MORNING, NOR BREAK ANY BONE OF IT-Num 9:12.
   BUT ONE OF THE SOLDIERS WITH A SPEAR PIERCED HIS SIDE, AND FORTHWITH CAME THERE OUT BLOOD AND WATER-Jn 19:34. For ANOTHER SCRIPTURE SAITH-Jn 19:37, THEY SHALL LOOK UPON ME WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED-Zech 12:10.
   HE SHALL SEE THE TRAVAIL (or suffering) OF HIS SOUL, AND SHALL BE SATISFIED: BY HIS KNOWLEDGE SHALL MY RIGHTEOUS SERVANT JUSTIFY MANY; FOR HE SHALL BEAR THEIR INIQUITIES-Isa 53:11. ALL WE LIKE SHEEP HAVE GONE ASTRAY; WE HAVE TURNED EVERY ONE TO HIS OWN WAY; AND THE LORD HATH LAID UPON HIM THE INIQUITY OF US ALL-Isa 53:6.
   YET IT PLEASED THE LORD TO BRUISE (or crush) HIM; HE HATH PUT HIM TO GRIEF (AND CAUSE HIM TO SUFFER-NIV): WHEN THOU SHALT MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN, HE SHALL SEE HIS SEED (offspring), HE SHALL PROLONG HIS DAYS, AND THE PLEASURE OF THE LORD SHALL PROSPER IN HIS HAND-Isa 53:10.
   THEREFORE WILL I DIVIDE HIM A PORTION WITH THE GREAT, AND HE SHALL DIVIDE THE SPOIL WITH THE STRONG; BECAUSE HE HATH POURED OUT HIS SOUL UNTO DEATH: AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH THE TRANSGRESSORS; AND HE BARE THE SIN OF MANY, AND MADE INTERCESSION FOR THE TRANSGRESSORS-Isa 53:12.
   HE WAS CUT OFF OUT OF THE LAND OF THE LIVING-Isa 53:8. The Messiah was cut off-ref Dan 9:26.

AND, BEHOLD, THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT IN TWAIN FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM (or was torn in two); AND THE EARTH DID QUAKE, AND THE ROCKS RENT-Mt 27:51. This symbolized that man now had direct access to God through the atoning sacrifice of Christ, His death. The work was finished. A new and living way had now opened the Holy of Holies in the temple. It was not torn from the bottom to the top as man might do it, but rather from the top to the bottom, signifying that God had done it. The way to God was now open to everyone through Jesus Christ.

    Jesus was buried on the feast of Unleavened Bread.
   AND HE MADE HIS GRAVE WITH THE WICKED, AND WITH THE RICH IN HIS DEATH; BECAUSE HE HAD DONE NO VIOLENCE, NEITHER WAS ANY DECEIT IN HIS MOUTH-Isa 53:9. NOW IN THE PLACE WHERE HE WAS CRUCIFIED THERE WAS A GARDEN; AND IN THE GARDEN A NEW SEPULCHER, WHEREIN WAS NEVER MAN YET LAID. THERE LAID THEY JESUS-Jn 19:41,42. WHEN THE EVEN WAS COME, THERE CAME A RICH MAN OF ARIMATHAEA, NAMED JOSEPH, WHO ALSO HIMSELF WAS JESUS’ DISCIPLE: HE WENT TO PILATE, AND BEGGED THE BODY OF JESUS. THEN PILATE COMMANDED THE BODY TO BE DELIVERED. AND WHEN JOSEPH HAD TAKEN THE BODY, HE WRAPPED IT IN A CLEAN LINEN CLOTH, AND LAID IT IN HIS OWN NEW TOMB, WHICH HE HAD HEWN OUT IN THE ROCK: AND HE ROLLED A GREAT STONE TO THE DOOR OF THE SEPULCHER, AND DEPARTED-Mt 27:57-60. AND HE THAT SAW IT BEAR RECORD, AND HIS RECORD IS TRUE: AND HE KNOWETH THAT HE SAITH TRUE, THAT YE MIGHT BELIEVE-Jn 19:35.
   HE THAT BELIEVETH ON THE SON HATH EVERLASTING LIFE: AND HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT THE SON (the Word) SHALL NOT SEE LIFE; BUT THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDETH ON HIM-Jn 3:36.

THE NEXT DAY, THAT FOLLOWED THE DAY OF THE PREPARATION, THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND PHARISEES CAME TOGETHER UNTO PILATE, SAYING, SIR, WE REMEMBER THAT THAT DECEIVER SAID, WHILE HE WAS YET ALIVE, AFTER THREE DAYS I WILL RISE AGAIN. COMMAND THEREFORE THAT THE SEPULCHER BE MADE SURE UNTIL THE THIRD DAY, LEST HIS DISCIPLES COME BY NIGHT, AND STEAL HIM AWAY, AND SAY UNTO THE PEOPLE, HE IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD: SO THE LAST ERROR (or deception) SHALL BE WORSE THAN THE FIRST. PILATE SAID...(Take a guard), GO YOUR WAY, MAKE IT AS SURE (or secure) AS YE CAN. SO THEY WENT, AND MADE THE SEPULCHER SURE (or secure), SEALING THE STONE, AND SETTING A WATCH (or posting the guard)-Mt 27:62-66.

    IN THE END OF THE SABBATH (when it was yet dark), AS IT BEGAN TO DAWN (at the rising of the sun) TOWARD THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK (Sunday), CAME MARY MAGDALENE AND THE OTHER MARY (the mother of James) TO SEE THE SEPULCHER-Mt 28:1; Jn 20:1. They HAD BROUGHT SWEET SPICES, THAT THEY MIGHT COME AND ANOINT HIM-Mk 16:1.
   AND, BEHOLD, THERE WAS A GREAT EARTHQUAKE: FOR THE ANGEL OF THE LORD DESCENDED FROM HEAVEN, AND CAME AND ROLLED BACK THE STONE FROM THE DOOR, AND SAT UPON IT-Mt 28:2.
   HIS COUNTENANCE (or appearance) WAS LIKE LIGHTNING, AND HIS RAIMENT WHITE AS SNOW-Mt 28:3.
   AND FOR FEAR OF HIM THE KEEPERS (or guards) DID SHAKE, AND BECAME AS DEAD MEN-Mt 28:4.
   AND THE ANGEL ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO THE WOMEN, FEAR NOT YE: FOR I KNOW THAT YE SEEK JESUS, WHICH WAS CRUCIFIED-Mt 28:5.
   HE IS NOT HERE: FOR HE IS RISEN, AS HE SAID. COME, SEE THE PLACE WHERE THE LORD LAY-Mt 28:6.
   AND ENTERING INTO THE SEPULCHER, THEY-Mk 16:5...FOUND NOT THE BODY OF THE LORD JESUS-Lk 24:3. And THEY SAW A YOUNG MAN SITTING ON THE RIGHT SIDE, CLOTHED IN A LONG WHITE GARMENT; AND THEY WERE AFFRIGHTED (or alarmed)-Mk 16:5.
   AND HE SAITH UNTO THEM, BE NOT AFFRIGHTED (or alarmed): YE SEEK JESUS OF NAZARETH, WHICH WAS CRUCIFIED-Mk 16:6. WHY SEEK YE THE LIVING AMONG THE DEAD?-Lk 24:5. HE IS RISEN; HE IS NOT HERE: BEHOLD THE PLACE WHERE THEY LAID HIM-Mk 16:6.
   REMEMBER HOW HE SPAKE UNTO YOU WHEN HE WAS YET IN GALILEE, SAYING, THE SON OF MAN MUST BE DELIVERED INTO THE HANDS OF SINFUL MEN, AND BE CRUCIFIED, AND THE THIRD DAY RISE AGAIN. AND THEY REMEMBERED HIS WORDS-Lk 24:6-8.
   AND GO QUICKLY, AND TELL HIS DISCIPLES THAT HE IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD-Mt 28:7.
   AND AS CONCERNING THAT HE RAISED HIM UP FROM THE DEAD, NOW NO MORE TO RETURN TO CORRUPTION, HE SAID ON THIS WISE, I WILL GIVE YOU THE SURE MERCIES OF DAVID. WHEREFORE HE SAITH ALSO IN ANOTHER PSALM, THOU SHALT NOT SUFFER THINE HOLY ONE TO SEE CORRUPTION-Acts 13:34,35. FOR THOU WILT NOT LEAVE MY SOUL IN HELL; NEITHER WILT THOU SUFFER THINE HOLY ONE TO SEE CORRUPTION (or decay)-Ps 16:10. BUT GOD WILL REDEEM MY SOUL FROM THE POWER OF THE GRAVE: FOR HE SHALL RECEIVE ME-Ps 49:15.
   FOR DAVID, AFTER HE HAD SERVED HIS OWN GENERATION BY THE WILL OF GOD, FELL ON SLEEP, AND WAS LAID UNTO HIS FATHERS, AND SAW CORRUPTION (his body decayed): BUT HE, WHOM GOD RAISED AGAIN, SAW NO CORRUPTION-Acts 13:36,37.
   Thus, the resurrection authenticated Who Jesus Christ was. As it is written, IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE THAT HE (Jesus) SHOULD BE HOLDEN OF IT (or it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him-NIV)-Acts 2:24; ref Acts 2:26,27. To further authenticate Who Jesus was, it is written, THERE SHALL NO SIGN BE GIVEN TO IT (to this generation), BUT THE SIGN OF THE PROPHET JONAH: FOR AS JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE WHALE’S BELLY; SO SHALL THE SON OF MAN BE THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH-Mt 12:39,40. We may say, this was God’s sign to Israel.
   Through the resurrection many prophecies were fulfilled.

    As just noted, when the angel of the Lord came, the guards did shake because of fear; they became as dead men-ref Mt 28:2-4.
   NOW...SOME OF THE WATCH (or guards) CAME INTO THE CITY, AND SHEWED UNTO THE CHIEF PRIESTS ALL THE THINGS THAT WERE DONE-Mt 28:11.
   Considering they had become as dead men for fear, surely, they would repent. The chief priests likewise now knew for certain that Jesus rose from the dead, surely, they would repent—but they did not.
   AND WHEN THEY WERE ASSEMBLED WITH THE ELDERS, AND HAD TAKEN COUNSEL, THEY GAVE LARGE MONEY UNTO THE SOLDIERS, SAYING, SAY YE, HIS DISCIPLES CAME BY NIGHT, AND STOLE HIM AWAY WHILE WE SLEPT. AND IF THIS COME TO THE GOVERNOR’S EARS, WE WILL PERSUADE HIM, AND SECURE YOU-Mt 28:12-14. One might think that the soldiers would be terrified to knowingly lie against the truth of God. Yet what did they do?
   SO THEY TOOK THE MONEY, AND DID AS THEY WERE TAUGHT: AND THIS SAYING IS COMMONLY REPORTED AMONG THE JEWS UNTIL THIS DAY-Mt 28:15.

    There was A CERTAIN MAN LAME FROM HIS MOTHER’S WOMB...THEN PETER SAID...IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH RISE UP AND WALK. AND HE LEAPING UP STOOD, AND WALKED…AND ALL THE PEOPLE SAW HIM WALKING AND PRAISING GOD-Acts 3:2,6,8,9. Then Peter preached unto the people.
   AND IT CAME TO PASS ON THE MORROW, THAT THEIR RULERS, AND ELDERS, AND SCRIBES, AND ANNAS THE HIGH PRIEST, AND CAIAPHAS, AND JOHN, AND ALEXANDER, AND AS MANY AS WERE OF THE KINDRED OF THE HIGH PRIEST, WERE GATHERED TOGETHER AT JERUSALEM. AND...THEY ASKED, BY WHAT POWER, OR BY WHAT NAME, HAVE YE DONE THIS? THEN PETER, FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, SAID...YE RULERS OF THE PEOPLE, AND ELDERS OF ISRAEL, BE IT KNOWN UNTO YOU ALL, AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL, THAT BY THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, WHOM YE CRUCIFIED, WHOM GOD RAISED FROM THE DEAD, EVEN BY HIM DOTH THIS MAN STAND HERE BEFORE YOU WHOLE-Acts 4:5-8,10.
   The rulers, elders, and scribes threatened them and commanded that they henceforth no longer speak in the name of Jesus to any man. BUT PETER AND JOHN ANSWERED AND SAID...WHETHER IT BE RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF GOD TO HEARKEN UNTO YOU MORE THAN UNTO GOD, JUDGE YE-Acts 4:19.
   Note, the rulers, elders, and scribes never denied that they crucified Jesus, neither did they ever deny that God raised Him from the dead. Many of them KNEW that Jesus had risen from the dead, because the soldiers had reported these things to them. There was no dispute about the resurrection, even from these enemies of the cross.
   Yet did they repent? No, they did not. As it is written, NO MAN CAN COME TO ME, EXCEPT THE FATHER WHICH HATH SENT ME DRAW HIM-Jn 6:44.

HE (Jesus) SHOWED HIMSELF ALIVE AFTER HIS PASSION (or suffering) BY MANY INFALLIBLE PROOFS, BEING SEEN OF THEM FORTY DAYS-Acts 1:3.

ALL THINGS MUST BE FULFILLED, WHICH WERE WRITTEN IN THE (1) LAW OF MOSES, (2) AND IN THE PROPHETS, (3) AND IN THE PSALMS, CONCERNING ME-Lk 24:44.
IT IS WRITTEN...CHRIST TO SUFFER, AND TO RISE FROM THE DEAD THE THIRD DAY-Lk 24:46.
